ABOUT

I am a film and advertising director. I made my directorial debut in 1993 with the short film OS MORADORES DA RUA HUMBOLDT, which won Best Film at the Havana, Cartagena, and RioCine festivals, as well as the Audience Award for Best Film in Uppsala (Sweden), and was an Official Selection at the New York International Festival, among others.
In 1994, I was one of the directors of the documentary TODOS OS CORAÇÕES DO MUNDO, FIFA’s official film about the World Cup.
As a director at O2 Filmes, I’ve worked extensively in advertising, having directed over 500 commercials for clients such as Itaú, Volkswagen, Ambev, Toyota, Telefônica, and Unilever, through Brazil’s top agencies.
In fiction, I directed episodes of the HBO series CHILDREN OF CARNIVAL — an International Emmy finalist — and the first episode of Antônia, a co-production between O2 Filmes and TV Globo.
In 2012, I co-wrote with Elena Soarez and directed the feature film THE FATHER'S CHAIR, starring Wagner Moura, Mariana Lima, and Lima Duarte. The film was part of the World Competition at the Sundance Film Festival and won the Audience Award for Best Film at the Rio International Film Festival, as well as Best Film and Best Actor (Wagner Moura) at the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival. It was also selected for more than 20 international festivals.
I directed the series HAPPILY EVER AFTER, a co-production between O2 and Globo, as well as DESTINATION: SALVADOR and PSI for HBO — the latter featuring Denise Wainberg, who was nominated for an International Emmy for Best Actress.
In 2017, I created, co-wrote with Elena Soarez, and directed the miniseries THIRTEEN DAYS AWAY FROM THE SUN, a co-production between O2 and Globo. The series was watched by 107 million viewers during its two-week broadcast on TV Globo, achieving one of the highest ratings for a series in the past 17 years. It received the FIESP/SESI Award for Best Fiction Series on Pay TV.
Since 2018, I’ve created and written the series FUTEBOL and served as head writer of the miniseries AMAZÔNIA, both for Netflix.
I am currently preparing the feature film O GRAMPO, co-written with Elena Soarez, scheduled to be shot in 2025.
